This post corresponds to podcast Episode 1: Integrating Your Marketing with David Cutler of Creative Business Development which is included in our Core Program.
So you own a small business and you know you should be online, but you’re not sure where to start. Hi there! We get it.
To warm things up a bit, consider these six points that our buddy Dave Cutler would like you to know about Internet Marketing:
1. It’s easy.
2. You need to participate.
3. Choose which technologies you want to use.
4. Be found!
5. Listen.
6. Know what you are talking about.
What does this mean? Learning how to promote your business online will take some time, but if you stay curious you’ll find that it’s pretty inexpensive and not all that complicated. We’ll show you some amazing ways to help you connect with your prospects directly, instead of relying on advertising agencies, newspapers or radio stations to help you reach your target audience.
The point is to find out what works for you! For example, you can participate at a simple level by creating a personal blog just to learn how it works (once you understand why you would even want to be blogging). Each time you try, you’ll get a little bit better and much more comfortable with any given technology. Meanwhile, ask your customers where they are hanging out! Find out if they blog, spend time on Facebook, watch videos, Tweet, etc. Finding other people who are influencers in your space and seeing what they are doing online is also a great way to learn!
The bottom line is that you are a subject matter expert in something, and sharing that expertise online is an essential way to grow your business. You just need to figure out (if you haven’t already) exactly what your expertise is in, and the most effective way to communicate it with your prospects. By the end of his course that should be crystal clear.
Come on…does it really matter that much?
See for yourself. Here’s an example we recently discovered while looking for a taxi in New Jersey.
• Step 1: We Googled “Taxi Cherry Hill NJ” and got these results:
• Step 2: We clicked on the first result (“A”) and read this review about someone’s unhappy experience with this taxi service:
• Step 3: We called a different company to pick us up. See what we’re talking about here?
If you are ready to start this free online marketing course then we’re ready to teach you, beginning with the next post on Market Research. Just remember that our free material explains “what” you need to know and “why” you need to know it. The Free Marketing Made Easy kit actually teaches you HOW to implement everything through videos and workbooks that walk you step-by-step through each topic.
Let’s get going!
